Let’s Talk Creative District, a casual, come-and-go event on Monday, August 3, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce and EDC office in The Grand Island Building, 208 N. Wheeler Ave.

The free event is designed to welcome community members from all backgrounds to learn more about the Creative District, upcoming programs, artist opportunities, cultural events, partnerships, and ways to get involved. Free food and drinks will be provided, and attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in GICD’s first community art project.

Artists, business owners, cultural organizations, nonprofits, community leaders, neighbors, and anyone who is simply curious are encouraged to attend.

“The arts have a unique way of bringing people together across backgrounds, experiences, and interests,” said Ryan Hand, GICD Board President. “This event is an opportunity to connect, share ideas, and build relationships that strengthen our creative community. Whether you’re an artist, business owner, community leader, or simply someone who cares about Grand Island, we invite you to join the conversation and help shape what comes next.”

Guests will have the opportunity to connect with Creative District representatives, ask questions, share ideas, and learn more about current and supported GICD projects, including The Mural Project, Calaveritas en la Cuatro, Youth Art Month activities, Hear GI, and more.

“This event is more than a gathering, it is an invitation to imagine what we can create together,” said Ashley Peters, Director of The Mural Project. “Through conversation, collaboration, and new connections, we can strengthen Grand Island’s creative spirit and help shape a vibrant future for our community.”

The Grand Island Creative District uses the arts to bring people together, celebrate different cultures, and help the community grow. Its vision is to be a place where people feel welcome, proud, and connected.

“Arts and culture are more than entertainment, they are an economic driver and a way to bring people together,” said Becky Rother, Outreach and Development Director with the Grand Island Area Economic Development Corporation and Chamber of Commerce. “When we invest in creativity, we are also investing in local businesses, supporting artists, and creating experiences that celebrate the many cultures and stories that make Grand Island special.”

The Creative District emphasizes that community members do not have to be artists to be part of the district’s work. The event is intended for anyone who cares about creativity, culture, connection, and the future of Grand Island.

“Events like Let’s Talk Creative District are important in helping our community come together around the creative, social, and economic opportunities the Creative District offers Grand Island,” said Chris Hochstetler, GICD Board Member and Executive Director of Stuhr Museum. “It is through events like this that our community gains vibrancy and grows.”

Kay Grimminger, owner of Warehouse Gallery and a member of the Grand Island Creative District Executive Committee, said she is excited to welcome artists and community members who are interested in the district’s work.

“I am excited to welcome artists and all those who are interested in the art activities of the district to attend the August event and sign on to move us to new and exciting future opportunities,” Grimminger said.

Let’s Talk Creative District is free and open to the public. Attendees may stop by anytime between 4 and 6 p.m.
